Prior to his arrival in Singapore in October 2014, Masashi was Chef at the 2-Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in London, UK, for 5 years. Today the affable 42-year-old native of Fukuoka, Japan, heads the kitchen at Verre, and is Consultant Chef at Shelter in the Woods. Chef Masashi’s style is a fusion of Japanese values and brilliant technical skills gained from a lifetime in elite European restaurants. The precision and system of his movements is reflective of the disciplined repetitiveness of the Japanese kitchen. He approaches ingredients with deep sensitivity to their human producers, and an almost spiritual regard for Nature. He creates flavour profiles that are full and distinct, yet delicate and balanced.
